Aino-Maija Metsola est une illustratrice et designer finlandaise née en 1983, diplômée de l’Université

d’art et de design d’Helsinki. Elle est invitée à présenter son travail de plasticienne et de designer au Studio Fotokino en décembre 2023, à l’occasion de la 20e édition du festival Laterna magica. Observant la nature nordique dans ses peinture l’aquarelle et travaillant la composition d’éléments végétaux ou abstraits dans les nombreux motifs qu’elle conçoit pour Marimekko - plus d'une centaine depuis 2006 - l’univers d’Aino-Maija Metsola se concentre principalement sur la couleur et la transparence.

Dans le portfolio Drawings qui rassemble 10 dessins issus d’une série réalisée en août 2023, l’artiste créé pour la première fois des images en noir et blanc, avec une attention particulière aux effets de matières obtenues par le fusain. En réaction aux nombreux incendies de forêt qui ont eu lieu partout dans le monde durant ces mois d’été, elle a ressenti le besoin d’explorer cette technique simple et brute produite par le bois brûlé, imaginant les paysages qui auraient survécu à une telle destruction.

 Aino-Maija Metsola is a Finnish illustrator and designer born in 1983, who graduated from the University of Art and Design Helsinki in 2008.
in December 2023, she was invited to show her work at the Fotokino Studio in Marseille, as part of the 20th edition of the Laterna magica festival. In her paintings and designs, she is inspired by her natural environment, and likes to mingle figurative and abstract elements, often using watercolor and ink. She has collaborated with Marimekko since 2006, and created more than 100 patterns for the famous Finnish fashion and design company.

The Drawings portfolio brings together 10 drawings from a series she made in August 2023, experimenting with charcoal for the first time and focusing on black and white pictures instead of colour. In response to the many forest fires that took place around the world during those summer months, she felt the need to explore this simple, raw technique produced by burning wood, imagining the landscapes that would survive this kind of destruction.

Each portfolio is signed by the artist.
