« À peu près Euclide » est une exploration graphique et chromatique du langage d’Oliver Byrne, auteur d’un traité célébrant le mariage de l’art et de la science en 1850. De la réalisation de maquettes
 aux tirages photographiques à la gomme bichromatée qui leur confère une qualité graphique difficile à identifier, Laurent Millet, tout comme l’auteur anglais dans cette audacieuse œuvre de vulgarisation scientifique, y convoque les vocabulaires des avant-gardes du XXe ou du mouvement Memphis, celui du laboratoire scientifique et des outils d’observation, mais aussi, joyeusement, celui de l’enfance.
Le livre se présente comme un portfolio non relié dont les pages, glissées dans une pochette, s’adaptent au format des 21 photographies.
Photographe et plasticien, Laurent Millet compose depuis le milieu des années 1990 les chapitres d’une encyclopédie imaginaire, peuplée d’objets qu’il construit puis photographie dans des décors naturels ou dans son atelier. Chercheur méthodique, il organise son œuvre par séries qui toutes se présentent comme un mystère au regardeur, et qui offrent l’occasion de questionner le statut de l’image.

« À peu près Euclide » is a graphic and chromatic exploration of the language of Oliver Byrne, author of a book celebrating the marriage of art and science in 1850. From the making of models to photographic prints with gum bichromate, which gives them a graphic quality that is difficult to identify, Laurent Millet, like the English author in this audacious work of scientific vulgarisation, evokes the vocabularies of the twentieth century avant-gardes or the Memphis movement, that of the scientific laboratory and of observation tools, but also, joyfully, that of childhood.
The book is presented as an unbound portfolio which pages, slipped into a pocket, adapt to the format of the 21 photographs.
Since the mid-1990s, Laurent Millet has been composing chapters of an imaginary encyclopaedia, inhabited by objects that he constructs and photographs in natural settings or in his studio. As a methodical researcher, he organises his work in series, all of which present themselves as a mystery to the viewer, and which offer the opportunity to question the status of the image.
